All aboard the bus! Chatflix is on tour and we’re headed ALLLL the way back to 1973 (actually the year 2000), for Cameron Crowe’s kinda, sorta semi-autobiographical, drama, comedy; Almost Famous.

With Brose unmistakably the lead singer, the rest of the band is made up with; author, broadcaster and speech aficionado Tony Wilson & Danielle Chau.

We chat the story of a teenage Rolling Stone reporter (Patrick Fugit) on the road with the famous... well almost famous... rock band Still Water (featuring Billy Crudup and Jason Lee) and their Band Aids (Kate Hudson and Anna Paquin).

So, what do you love about music? And flicks about fictitious rock bands? Pop your headphones in and listen to our latest episode TODAY.

It’s a strange world out there, and no one quite does strange like David Lynch! Take a trip with us, back to 1986 to chat out FIRST EVER Lynch flick; Blue Velvet.

Brose sits down to unpack this part Neo-Noir/Part Psychological Horror and ALL 100% David Lynch nuttiness with Chatflix stalwart, Danielle and joined by Zak Hepburn from Melbourne’s favourite art-deco, single-screen cinema specialising in both classics & new releases, The Astor Theatre.

Starring Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper (see above mentioned nuttiness) and everyone’s favourite paleobotanist, Laura Dern.

Frank Booth may scream at you to stop looking at him but he never said anything about listening. So, masks up and earphones in! Check out what what we’re chatting by downloading us TODAY!

This week Shaun and Brose look at the debut film for the Coen Brothers; Blood Simple.

Possibly the most complex of all the debut films we've looked at, Ethan and Joel bring together Frances McDormand, John Getz, Dan Hedaya and M. Emmet Walsh for this neo-noir, psycho-sexual thriller.

Jul 11, 2020

When it comes to stealing millions in mob money and pinning the blame on someone else you’ve gotta listen to Shaun and Brose ... as they chat Corky (Gina Gershon) and Violet’s (Jennifer Tilly) scheme when they continue their series of chats of debut flicks from famous directors with

The Wachowskis 1996 feature flick; Bound The Wachowski’s delivered a sexy, romantic, violent, crime thriller all wrapped up in murder and money before they had the whole world asking “what is The Matrix?”

This week ChatFlix is very lucky to be joined by the star of Christopher Nolan's debut feature film Following, Jeremy Theobald.

Jeremy joins Shaun, James and Brose over Zoom to chat the making of Following and what he has been up to more recently.

We are grateful for the time Jeremy made to talk to us and we hope you enjoy this chat as much we did.

Listen to Shaun and I review Following on episode 208 (June 10).

When three friends plan a robbery and go on the run we don’t usually chat about it. UNLESS those three friend are from Wes Anderson’s debut flick; Bottle Rocket.

Continuing their series of chats about debut flicks from famous directors, Shaun and Brose team up again turning their attention to the bottle-less, rocket-less crime comedy that gave us not once, not twice but three times a Wilson’s (Owen, Luke and Andrew) with the great James Caan.

The dice are loaded and we're shooting high this week as the double or nothing team of Shaun (the double) and Brose (nothing) continue their discussion of first time directors with Paul Thomas Anderson's Hard Eight.

This gritty 1996 film stars Philip B. Hall, John C. Reilly, Samuel L. Jackson and Gwyneth (no middle initial) Paltrow is set in Las Vegas and is one hell of a ride!

Jun 19, 2020

The name is Flix, ChatFlix.

Join us as we gear up and bungy jump head first into the dammed river that is the Bond Cinematic Franchise.

Brose is joined by special guest, comedian Josh Ladgrove, comic artist Trevor Wood and comedian Angus Brown.

Put on your best tuxedo pour yourself a vodka martini (shaken, not stirred) and pop us in your hear holes and listen to us chat about  Pierce Brosnan’s James Bond debut in 1995’s Goldeneye.

Jun 18, 2020

This is week three of seven discussing the debut films of famous directors with Ben Affleck's first effort; Gone Baby Gone.

Familiar themes for Affleck, focusing on South Boston and the working class milieu that we saw in Good Will Hunting and the subsequent The Town.

In coming weeks we will look at Hard Eight (Paul Thomas Anderson), Bottle Rocket (Wes Anderson), Bound (The Wachowskis) and Blood Simple (the Coen Brothers).

Jun 11, 2020

This week Brose is locked in the boot by Sam, Heather and Veronica from Spice Power as we discuss the 1999 film Jawbreaker!

Rose McGowan, Rebecca Gayheart, Julie Benz and Judy Greer star in this problematic 90s throwback that brings together elements from Heather, Clueless and Carrie.

With a supporting cast including PJ Soles, Carol Kane, Pam Grier, Marilyn Manson, William Katt and Jeff Conaway!

How does Jawbreaker hold up on its 21st birthday? Listen to find out!

Jun 10, 2020

For seven weeks Shaun and Brose are discussing the debut films of prominent directors. Robert Rodriguez, P T Anderson, the Coen Brothers, the Wachowskis, Wes Anderson and Ben Affleck.

For week two we are checking out Christopher Nolan's 1998 debut theatrical film: Following. The man that went on to re-invent the troubled Batman franchise and cinema in general with films like Inception, Interstellar, Insomnia and other films not starting with the letter 'i.'

Jun 4, 2020

In 1981 John Carpenter dared imagine a not-too distant future (1997), when New York City would be walled off to the rest of the USA and turned into a maximum security prison. Terrorists have crashed the President within these walls and the President's only hope is Kurt Russell (Trump wishes Russell was all he needed!).

Jackson Marshall from We Watched This Movie Podcast breaks into Chatflix to chat Escape From New York with one-eyed BROSE and Angus who has been injected with micro-explosives. The clock is ticking. Breaking out is impossible but downloading our newest episode is simple.

Jun 3, 2020

For the next seven weeks Shaun and Brose are discussing the debut films of prominent directors. Christopher Nolan, P T Anderson, the Coen Brothers, the Wachowskis, Wes Anderson and Ben Affleck.

To start we are heading to 1992 to discuss the first film of Robert Rodriguez; director, producer and film teacher for everyone. A film that proves literally anyone can make a film!

CONFORM. OBEY. CONSUME. CONSUME. DOWNLOAD TODAY.

May 21, 2020

As we wander aimlessly into winter here in Australia, Brose and Angus are joined by comedian Aaron 'Gocsy' Gocs to revisit the Cohen Brothers film Fargo.

With an Oscar winning performance from Frances McDormand and with Cohen Bros regulars William H Macy and Steve Buscemi, we trek into the white tundra as trouble is afoot.

Enjoy our insight and discussion and, if you only take one lesson from this episode, know that Cocsy has an abject fear of being murdered and left in a snowy wasteland!

May 14, 2020

This week Brose and Angus are joined by comedian Sonia di Iorio to discuss one of her fondest childhood films; Beetlejuice!

The comedy of Keaton and the darkness of Burton align perfectly and co-exist, balanced, in a way Burton never achieved again. The whimsy, the humour, death, suicide and claymation never looked so good!

Listen on to see what we thought and whether we summon the bio-exorcist himself by uttering his name three times...

May 9, 2020

Reality is tough, reality is hard, reality bites!

Claire Sullivan joins Brose and Angus to chat this 1994, post grunge, pre-internet, Ben Stiller directorial debut; Reality Bites.

Recruiting Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, Jeneane Garofalo and Steve Zahn to illustrate the frustrations of youth and the perils of Generation X.

One thing we can guarantee is this week ChatFlix doesn't bite but reality sure does!

Apr 30, 2020

Can you feel it in your fingers? Or feel it in your toes? Its time for a BRAND NEW episode of Chatflix and this time it’s Three Panelists and a Podcast when we look back to 1994 for Four Weddings And A Funeral with Brose, Angus and for the first time EVER, Comedian and Triple J presenter Jess Perkins.

Before Notting Hill, or even Love Actually, Richard Curtis wrote this outrageously funny affair with a dashingly young Hugh Grant, the engaging (wink, wink) Andie McDowell and scene stealing Rowan Atkinson about a committed bachelor potentially discovering love over the course four weddings and, you guessed it, one funeral!

So if you really love podcasts... Come on and listen to our latest shooowww 🎶
Come on and let it,
Come on and let it,
Come on and let it shoooowwww

Apr 16, 2020

This week ChatFlix celebrates 200 Episodes! And we got the band back together; Jade Goodge, Stuart Wilson and Trevor Wood (and Brose Avard).

But which film would be worthy to celebrate such a milestone? (I know it’s written above this blurb, but come with me here...)

That’s right, JAWS! (The forbidden film)

For those of you that have been with us since the beginning, you’ll know that ChatFlix regular Jade was forbidden to watch Jaws. Well, to celebrate the 200th episode we made her watch it!

Steven Spielberg directs Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfus and Bruce (the shark) in this 1975 classic (and famous remake of the TV film Duel).

So slip on your floaties, slop yourself onto a boogie board and slap on some baby oil because it's the Summer of '75 and we're hitting that beach!

Apr 9, 2020

For our 199th episode we take podcasting to new lengths when we chat Disney’s 50th animated feature and visit the, rather unfortunately named, Corona Kingdom to chat - Tangled

So Brose'll ZOOM a panelist
Or maybe two or three
Illustrator Kayla can add a few new paintings to his gallery
Comedian Isabella’ll play guitar and knit
And cook and basically
Leaving Jazz to wonder, when will my life begin?

And we'll keep wonderin' and wonderin' And wonderin' ...geez! Maybe Mother Gothal DID know best. Stay in, stay healthy, plug in and get all Tangled up with us this Easter

Apr 3, 2020

Staying home can be tough but things could always be worse; you could be isolating with the Thrombey family from the recent Rian Johnson flick.

Nothing gets us gabbing like a good mystery and nothing brings a family together like murder.

Brose investigates with devoted caretaker James, the lifestyle guru Kathryn and trust fund playboy Chris to sift through all the twists, red herrings and lies to get to the truth.

Stay inside, stay healthy, plug in and listen with us as we chat 2019’s Knives Out.

Mar 27, 2020

This week Brose calls a handful of regular ChatFlixers to find out what they will be watching while in self isolation.

These are suggestions from easily accessible streaming platforms, so hopefully we can help you find a hidden gem!

Stay safe and you'll hear from us next time we Chat Flix.

Mar 19, 2020

Were you, like us, looking forward to seeing Disney’s NEW Mulan live action remake in cinemas before it was delayed due to the global coronavirus pandemic? Well, we have a solution for you to make your self isolation a little bit easier.

Brose recruits Kayla Coombs and Isabella Valette to take you back to 1998 for the original animated Mulan. Starring as the titular daughter who takes her father's place in the army and defeats the invading Hun is Disney triple-threat Ming-Na Wen, add Agents of SHIELD and Disney+’s The Mandalorian to make up her Disney trifecta! Disfecta...?

Also featuring; James Hong, George Takei, BD Wong, Pat Morita, and of course, Eddie Murphy as the hilarious guardian dragon; Mushu.

When we look back at this what will it’s reflection show? Will we remain true to our hearts? You’ll have to pop on your headphones and listen to find out!

Mar 12, 2020

Before Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker BLASTS into stores to own on 4K, Blu Ray and DVD on April 1st, for the FIRST TIME EVER ChatFlix takes a look at a flick we’ve already chatted. Consider this episode; Re-ChatFlix!

Get a whole other perspective this time around when Brose is joined by a couple of Chatflix stalwarts when Stuart and James sit in to chat The Rise of Skywalker.

Episode IX has proven to be one of the most divisive films in the Star Wars Cannon. With our initial reactions settled in, we chat to see how it stands up now that the space dust has settled.
